Getting Started
How do I create an account?
Click the "Sign Up" button in the top right corner. You'll need to provide your email address, create a password, and verify your email. You'll also need to complete your profile with basic information.
Is BorrowBoots free to use?
Creating an account and browsing gear is completely free. When you rent gear, you'll pay the rental fee set by the gear owner. When you list gear, we take a small percentage of the rental fee as our service charge.
How do I verify my account?
After creating your account, you'll need to verify your identity. This includes providing a government-issued ID and completing your profile. This helps ensure the safety and trust of our community.
What types of gear can I rent?
We support a wide variety of outdoor equipment including camping gear, hiking equipment, climbing gear, winter sports equipment, photography gear, cycling equipment, and more. Check our categories page for a complete list.
Renting Gear
How do I rent gear?
Browse available gear, select your desired dates, and submit a booking request. The gear owner will review your request and either approve or decline it. Once approved, you'll pay through our secure payment system.
How do I meet the gear owner?
After your booking is confirmed, you'll coordinate with the gear owner to arrange pickup and dropoff. We recommend meeting in public, well-lit locations. Always follow our safety guidelines.
What if the gear is damaged when I receive it?
Document any damage with photos immediately upon receiving the gear. Contact the gear owner and our support team right away. We have a dispute resolution system to handle such situations fairly.
Can I cancel my booking?
Yes, you can cancel your booking, but cancellation policies vary by gear owner. Check the specific listing for cancellation details. Generally, the earlier you cancel, the better your refund will be.
Listing Gear
How do I list my gear?
Click "List Your Gear" in the navigation menu. You'll need to provide photos, a description, set your rental rate, and specify your availability. Make sure your gear is in good condition before listing.
How much should I charge for my gear?
Research similar gear on our platform to see what others are charging. Consider the condition, brand, and demand for your specific equipment. You can always adjust your rates based on market response.
What happens if my gear gets damaged?
Renters are responsible for returning gear in the same condition they received it. If damage occurs, document it with photos and contact our support team. We have insurance options and dispute resolution processes.
How do I get paid?
Payments are processed securely through Stripe. You'll receive your earnings (minus our service fee) after the rental is completed. We hold payouts for 3 days after completion to allow time for any issues to be reported and resolved. You can set up automatic payouts to your bank account in your Payout Settings.
Safety & Trust
How do you verify users?
All users must provide a government-issued ID and complete their profile. We also use profile reviews, ratings, and our community reporting system to maintain trust and safety.
What if I have a problem with a rental?
Contact our support team immediately. We have a comprehensive dispute resolution system and will work to resolve any issues fairly. Document everything with photos and clear communication.
Is my payment information secure?
Yes, all payments are processed securely through Stripe, a trusted payment processor. We never store your payment information directly on our servers.
What insurance options are available?
We offer optional insurance coverage for both gear owners and renters. This provides additional protection against damage, theft, and other potential issues. Check our insurance page for details.

I can't log into my account
